Hospital services in Tonga are said to be struggling... with only a few doctors not joining the public servants' strike.

The Medical Superintendent at Vaiola Hospital, Doctor Siale 'Akau'ola has told the online news service Matangi Tonga that the clinical unit, the outpatients unit, the hospital wards, the dental clinic, maintenance and catering services have all been hit.

Doctor 'Akau'ola says the only service operating well at Vaiola is the Emergency Unit.

The main rubbish dump in the capital, Nuku'alofa, is now said to be overflowing onto the seafront roads, as collectors have been on strike.
