American Samoans offered cheap flights for Hawaii medical care

7:34 am on 27 August 2005

Hawaiian Airlines is offering a reduced airfare exclusively for American Samoa residents needing medical care in Honolulu.

The discount fare would save travelers nearly US$300 off regular airfares.

The special medical fare is US$629 for roundtrip economy class seating with travel originating in Pago Pago.

Each passenger qualifying for the discounted rate can be accompanied by two traveling companions at the same price.

The return flight from Honolulu must take place within four days.

Keoni Wagner, Hawaiian's vice president of public affairs said the new fare is to help ease the extra financial burden that the people of American Samoa bear when they travel to Honolulu for specialised medical care.
