Fiji police are expected to interview the military commander following his revelation that government senator Mohammed Apisai Tora had asked him to remove President Iloilo just a week after he had taken office.

Commodore Frank Bainimarama said the request to oust the president from office was put to him in the boardroom of Fijian Holdings Limited as the post coup interim administration was being appointed in 2000.

He said he was ready to give a statement to police on the matter.

The police commissioner, Andrew Hughes, has told Radio Legend that they want to talk to Commodore Bainimarama on the issue to determine if the matter warrants further investigation.

Mr Hughes says he appreciates Commodore Bainimarama's willingness to talk to them and their offices have been in touch to progress the matter.

Mr Hughes met with his assistant commissioner crime, Kemueli Bulamainaivalu, to discuss whether Mr Tora and those who made the request to oust the president would be investigated.
