More than a dozen New Zealand police have been stationed outside the King of Tonga's residence in Auckland as some protestors trried to force their way through the gates..

The protest comes amid a crisis in Tonga where public servants have been in strike for more than four weeks.

Reports say one group of protestors has burnt a flag to the dismay of other protestors.

A Tongan news reporter at the residence, Eseta Funganitao, says there were about a hundred protestors earlier but that number is growing.

She says the most vocal have been from those marching in support of the public service strike.
