Cooks MPs to begin final phase of land law consultation

3:20 pm on 19 August 2005

A special select committee of Cook Islands MPs is to hold the first of its final series of public consultations on the Unit Titles Bill tonight.

Land can't be bought or sold in the Cook Islands but the Bill paves the way for a new titleholding status for proprietors.

The Cook Islands News reports that the proposals originally applied to units in two hotel projects in Vaimaanga and Ootu in Aitutaki but have been extended to include all land.

Committee secretary Tupuna Rakanui, says they have endorsed some of the recommendations from legal advisors.

Committee chairman Tupou Faireka hopes to table the revised bill before parliament when it resumes from the 19th of September.
