An intelligence official from American Samoa has told a group in Honolulu that terrorism and other transnational crimes pose potential threats to the security of the Pacific Islands.

Cinta Brown, assistant director of the Pago Pago-based South Pacific Islands Criminal Intelligence Network has told an Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies Conference that terrorism and other transnational crimes such as human and drug trafficking and money laundering pose potential threats to the security of the Pacific Islands

She said reports of suspected terrorists traveling throughout the Pacific and the bombing incident in Bali further intensify the reality of terrorism.

Ms Brown told the delegates to the conference that Pacific nations must encourage the regular exchange of information and cooperation among all partners, and must develop capabilities for sharing criminal justice information.
