4:09 pm on 16 August 2005

The National Court in the Papua New Guinea capital will decide tomorrow whether to proceed with the trial of Madang Governor James Yali for alleged rape or transfer it back to Madang in view of the costs involved.

The newspaper, The National, reports that the prosecution was concerned about the costs about 17,000 US dollars to fly 29 witnesses from Madang to Port Moresby.

Mr Yali is accused of raping his 16-year-old sister-in-law at the Madang provincial government building last year.

He is currently on bail.
