The Cook Islands justice minister, Tupou Faireka, has called for his party leader to step down.
Last week, the Cook Islands Party leader, Sir Geoffrey Henry, was sacked as deputy prime minister.
Mr Faireka says while he doesn't question Sir Geoffrey's leadership qualities he does think it is time for new blood at the top.
Mr Faireka says Sir Geoffrey seems to have been involved in a lot of failures without being held accountable by the CIP.
"The failures of our previous coalition with other parties, that failure has been pointing to him as leader. In fact the last three coalition the Cook Islands Party lost those elections because of him. He was sacked on both occasions."
Tupou Faireka says there are a number of people who could lead the party including himself and cabinet colleague, Tom Marsters.
