In French Polynesia, a surveillance plane is expected to relaunch its search today for two people missing at sea.

The news agency Tahitipresse reports the two people aged in their thirties have disappeared in the Tuamotu islands.

Officials were preparing for two boats to cross from Tureia to the uninhabited island of Vanavana to carry out work there on Thursday.

One boat left before the other, which when it arrived on the atoll found no trace of the two people.

A search operation began on Friday, with a French Navy Gardian plane carrying out a sweep of an area of 10,000 square kilometres.
