Rolling blackouts in the Northern Marianas are expected to worsen tomorrow as the Commonwealth Utilities Coporation struggles to accomodate the power demand.

The CUC power generation manager, Almondo Santos, told the Saipan Tribune, changes would be made to the load shedding schedule in view of this week's schools opening.

He says the CUC would be looking at some areas presently unaffected by power outages to see if they could be taken offline to prevent disruptions at schools.

This week Saipan has experienced blackouts as a result of reduced power generation.

Only five out of eight engines at the Lower Base power plant are currently working, meaning capacity is down by almost half.
