Fuel prices to go up in Samoa

4:07 pm on 1 August 2005

Businesses and consumers in Samoa are facing sharply rising prices for petrol, diesel and kerosene from tomorrow ."

The Ministry of Finance's Energy office says the skyrocketing prices are due to increasing world wide demand for oil.

It says there is an insufficient supply of the non renewable resource to cope with rising demand.

The Energy Office says people must be prepared to prices to stay at high levels for some time.

The Finance Minister, Misa Telefoni, has previously warned that people will have to resign themselves to continuing price hikes.
