Vanuatu's President Kalkot Mataskelekele has called for his people to work together more to make theirs a prosperous nation.

The President was speaking at an official ceremony to mark Vanuatu's 25th anniversary of independence at the weekend.

He said ni-Vanuatu now have a better understanding of the importance of family, community and country than they did under the joint administration of Britain and France.

He says that it's encouraging that people are more determined than ever to help Vanuatu move forward…

"Similarly we should move forward with hope and conviction that despite difficulties the country is continuing to progress in a path that improves people's livelihood, and in a way that everyone can be content with."
