Search continues for missing New Zealand couple in the Pacific

Search and Rescue Coordination New Zealand is appealing for people in the Pacific to be on the lookout for a couple who have been missing at sea for almost 50 days.

Verona Hunt and her Australian partner Gary Cull left New Zealand on the Manoah yacht, but haven't been heard from since the 9th of June.

The couple were sailing from Nelson on route to Rarotonga.

But Rescue Officer Dave Wilson says the Manoah could now be adrift somewhere in the Pacific ocean from recent storms.

"At this stage, we're continuing our communications search. That will continue at this stage until the end of August and then we'll review the situation again, and if there's been no further information that's come in, we'll have to make a decision as to what the next step will be."

Dave Wilson says they are particularly appealing to boaties and fishermen in Fiji Tonga Samoa Cook Islands and Tahiti waters.
