A spokesman for a newly formed Public Service Association in Tonga says he expects around 2-thousand civil servants to go on strike from tomorrow.
Finau Tutone says workers are upset over how much top civil servants get paid compared with their subordinates.
Mr Tutone says his committee asked the government to drop the rises that came into effect this month and look at a fairer pay scale.
However the government has asked for more time to consult a select-committee, but he says civil servants support immediate strike action.
"The number attended the hall is over 2 thousand and they agree to start. We gave them options, whether we will start [immediately] or next Monday or Tuesday. They all go to start. They are very, very angry."
Finau Tutone says the strike action will last until a satisfactory response is given by the government.
