Solomons parliament to debate report on RAMSI

10:25 am on 21 July 2005

The Solomon Islands Parliament is today expected to begin debating the Eminent Persons Group report on the Regional assistance mission, or RAMSI.

The EPG conducted its assessment of RAMSI earlier this year and praised its efforts in restoring law and order.

In a wide ranging report it laid out 25 steps for the further development of the country, with much emphasis on the need for the Government to take a greater role.

An EPG member, the Forum Secretary General, Greg Urwin, says it is vital that RAMSI does not come to be seen as a cure all for Solomon Islands problems.

The Prime Minister Sir Allen Kemakeza is expected to move the motion for a deabte on the EPG report today.
