Rumours of another port blockade sends Tahiti motorists to petrol stations

Thousands of motorists in the French Polynesian capital, Papeete, spent yesterday afternoon in queues after rumours about a blockade of Tahiti's main port.

Members of the presidential Polynesian Intervention Group were said to be going on strike.

The GIP have blockaded the port twice since the government changed hands in March this year.

They claim the Temaru government is not honouring contracts set by the previous administration of Gaston Flosse.
