American Samoa's Governor, Togiola Tulafono, has ordered an investigation in to the cause of the latest medicine shortages at the LBJ Hospital.

Patients have not been able to get prescriptions from the hospital pharmacy for the last two weeks

The Governor said on his radio programme that the government has been providing weekly allocations to the hospital to buy medicine.

He told his listeners "I thought the money was being used to purchase medicine, but it appears that we still have not been able to resolve the medicine shortage."

He said he has directed his office to investigate the reasons why medicine is again in short supply.

The governor also said that there will be permanent solutions to resolve LBJ's financial problems before the year is over.
