Samoa PM praises new air service between the two Samoas

10:17 am on 1 July 2005

Samoa's Prime Minister Tuilaepa Aiono Sailele Malielegaoi congratulated the Sene family yesterday for expanding Pago Pago based Inter Island Air to run a service between American Samoa and Samoa.

An American Samoan airline has not serviced the inter Samoa market since the collapese of Samoa Air in September of 2003.

Samoa's Polynesian Airlines has been the sole carrier on the route since then.

John Wasko of KHJ Radio in Pago Pago was on board the inaugural flight.

"Tuilaepa in remarks said the inaugural flight represented a renewed cooperation between the two Samoas. He said that the new airline represented a opportunity for customers and the travelling public to make it easier for them to travel back and forth. Those remarks were echoed by Governor Togiola Tulafono who acknowleged how difficult it was to become a commercial airline and how difficult it was to accomplish this feat."

Inter Island will operate two daily flights to Samoa Monday to Friday and one on Saturday and Sunday.
