The Townsend Cromwell, the former scientific research vessel that was given as a gift to the American Samoa government and then sold to a company in Apia, is up for sale again - this time in New Zealand.
The vessel was a gift from the US National Atmospheric and Oceanic Administration.
It arrived in the territory in November of 2002 and was not used up to the time it was sold last year to Pacific Shipping Corporation.
The company planned to use the boat for cruises around Samoa and to American Samoa.
The company's attorney, Trevor Stevenson, says that idea was scrapped because Samoa was found to be too small for an operation of that capacity.
He told the Samoa Observer that several offers have been made by New Zealand interests to buy the boat and it is now in New Zealand undergoing survey work.
