Solomon Islands Trade Union Council applauds Court decision

8:02 pm on 8 June 2005

The secretary of the trade union council says they applaud the High Court's decision to dismiss the Russell Island Plantation Estate Limited dispute.

The ruling was over a case brought by RIPEL alleging workers had ignored an earlier court order which had declared their strike illegal.

Tony Kagovai says the Trade Disputes Panel has always been the correct way to settle the one year quarrel over pay and working conditions.

"They rely on the technicality of the law, and they pursued it through the high court. It is very clear that the right way to go is to pursue it through the Trade Disputes panel."

Tony Kagovai says they have had no other such problems with any other foreign investor.

He says the panel's next hearing is on Monday.
