Congressman calls for American Samoa to have one house for lawmakers

2:29 pm on 20 May 2005

American Samoa's congressman says lawmakers and voters should look at whether the territory needs two chambers for the Fono.

Congressman Faleomavaega and the Senate president Lolo Moliga say the Future Political Status Study Commission should look into the possibility of a single house legislature.

Faleomavaega says American Samoans are the most represented people on the entire planet.

He says the territory has 39 Senators and House members doing work on behalf of some 70-thousand citizens.

The governor is to appoint members of the Future Political Status Study Commission.

It will prepare a study which will be used for a Constitution Convention in November.
