United States authorities have given notice of the seized sharkfins confiscated earlier this year from a South Korean long liner in American Samoa.
The published notice says the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration will take possession of 3,400 kilograms of sharkfins that had been on board the MV Lung Soon no.128.
The sharkfins are being kept in cold storage in Iliiili.
The Administration's Attorney Paul Ortiz said the notice invites parties with claims on the sharkfin to file their claims, or else he says the National Marine Fisheries Service may auction the sharkfins, and the proceeds deposited into the bank, pending disposition of the matter.
