More than 200 workers of Fiji's Emperor Gold Mining Company held a multi-religious prayer session on Sunday to pray for the company's economic health.

The Fiji Times newspaper quotes the company doctor, Baladina Kavoa, as saying employees have been panicking at the financial plight of the company where gold production has declined by 20-per cent and redundancies are being considered.

Emperor's share price has plunged on the Sydney Stock Exchange.

Dr Kavoa says Sunday's prayers included preachers from five Christian groups as well as from the Muslim, Hindu and Sikh faiths.
