Brisbane hosts Asia Pacific peace conference

3:51 pm on 30 March 2005

A four-day conference in Brisbane this week is to look at how sustainable peace can be achieved in the Asia/Pacific region.

The conference at the University of Queensland's Australian Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies is bringing together academics, activists, and government and agency officials to discuss how peace, justice and reconciliation can be advanced.

The topics will cover development and security in the Pacific, and the quest for peace and justice from Pacific and Australasian indigenous groups.

It will also look at the capacity of regional institutions to prevent and/or manage conflict.
