India is being targeted as the next market to boost Fiji tourism figures.

The new Indian High Commissioner to Fiji, Ajay Singh, says he's looking forward to strengthening ties between the two countries.

He says that he would actively promote Fiji to his nationals as an ideal holiday destination.

The Ministry of Tourism and the Fiji Visitors Bureau are already looking at India as a profitable tourist market.

Fiji Live quotes the Minister for Tourism, Pita Nacuva, as saying the biggest challenge will be establishing a direct air link to India.

Fiji's current major tourist markets are Australia, New Zealand and the United States.
