Eco forestry forum demands PNG Forestry minister be sacked

6:41 pm on 22 March 2005

The Eco-Forestry Forum has asked Papua New Guinea's Prime Minister to remove the Minister for Forests because of his failure to deal with the overwhelming evidence of mismanagement in the logging industry.

The Forum alleges that the Minister, Patrick Pruaitch, has shown bias in favour of the logging industry over the rights of ordinary citizens and has failed in his Constitutional duty to manage forest resources.

In a letter the Forum asked the Prime Minister to restore public confidence in Government institutions.

The Forum believes that for the good of the industry and the future of PNG's forests, the current Minister of Forests must be removed.
