The date for the next Solomon Islands general elections has been tentatively set for March 26th in 2006.

The ruling coalition government has informed the National Electoral Commission of its desire for the elections to be held on that date.

The last parliamentary elections were held in December 2001.

The Electoral Commission has yet to decide on the official date as it has just begun looking at the election process.

Meanwhile, the ruling coalition, led by prime minister Sir Allen Kemakeza, continues to study the possibility of contesting the 2006 elections as a group.
