Weather delays opening of American Samoa disaster centre

4:54 pm on 17 March 2005

The scheduled opening of the Federal Emergency Management Agency's Disaster Recovery Centers on American Samoa's islands of Ofu and Olosega has been postponed because of bad weather.

The new openings, weather permitting, will be tomorrow in Ofu while the DRC in Olosega will open on Friday local time, pending favorable weather conditions.

Meanwhile, residents of the Manu'a Islands who suffered damages as a result of Cyclone Olaf have been told to file a claim if they have insurance coverage, before visiting the Disaster Recovery Centre to fill out an application.
