3:08 pm on 2 March 2005

Royalty and tribal chiefs in Wallis and Futuna have reportedly gathered for talks on key issues facing the French territory.

The 'Uvea Mo Futuna website reports that the royalty of Wallis and district chiefs began their meeting yesterday on Wallis island at Sagato Soane de Mata'utu.

They are discussing the current social housing system and the reform of grants for overseas study.

Also being considered by village chiefs are ways to stop young people making noise nuisances, and how to prevent accidents caused by people driving around at night without headlights.
