Solomon Islands Fisheries Minister, sought by police, goes missing

8:40 pm on 22 February 2005

A Solomon Islands Cabinet Minister, Nelson Kile, is being sought by police over his alleged involvement in a traffic accident last Friday.

Police want to get a statement from Mr Kile, who is the Fisheries Minister, but have not been able to locate him.

He has been asked by police to present himself at a Honiara police station.

Mr Kile's involvement with police follows the arrest of Police Minister Michael Maina also on Friday and last month's arrest of another minister Clement Rojumana.

One former minister, Alex Bartlett, is also to face trial, while another, Daniel Fa'afanua, is serving a prison term for extortion.
