The American Samoan member of the US Congress says the French Polynesian electoral system appears unfair.
Faleomavaega Eni Hunkin, who supports Oscar Temaru, says he wonders if it does reflect the will of the people.
"The parliamentary system of elections here is, to put it mildly, unique in terms of counting the votes in such a way that this man (Oscar Temaru) won by almost seven thousand votes and he still has a hard time becoming the President of French Polynesia. I think the system is somewhat unfair."
Last week, Faleomavaega Eni Hunkin wrote to the International Atomic Energy Agency asking it to investigate the legacy of the French nuclear weapons test in the Pacific.
