Solomons police minister wants talks with Australia and NZ about policing gaps

4:49 pm on 9 February 2005

The Solomon Islands Police Minister says there are gaps in police services in the country and he wants help from Australia and New Zealand to close them.

Michael Maina says he already has indications of their support to help improve the Royal Solomons Police force.

He says they now need to discuss the finer details of where the policing gaps are.

Mr Maina says RAMSI has done a solid job, but there are many areas that still need attention.

"We just need to refocus, and improve on certain areas that requires attention and strengthening, especially in the area of community policing."

Michael Maina says the meeting may take place as early as next week.
