Melanesian Brother tells Solomons murder trial that rebel leader admitted killing Cabinet Minister

9:13 pm on 8 February 2005

In Solomon Islands a Church of Melanesia Brother has told the High Court that the former militant leader, Harold Keke, told him that he'd killed Cabinet Minister Fr Augustine Geve.

Keke and two others are facing trial for the murder of Fr Geve in August 2002.

Brother Dixion Pana, told the court of a number of contacts he and another Melanesian Brother, Nicholas Hou, had with Keke and Fr Geve on August 19th 2002.

He says Keke also gave him a yellow envelope containing Fr Geve's resignation letter addressed to the Prime Minister.

On August 20th after Keke had eaten breakfeast with the Brothers and given them one hundred Solomon Islands dollars each, he said he was going to meet Fr Geve.

Brother Pana says Keke returned half an hour later carrying a gun and Fr Geve's briefcase, and said " if you reach the PM tell him I have already killed the MP."
