Fiji's ruling SDL party says Daily Post newspaper won't be its mouthpiece

Fiji's ruling SDL party is denying that the Daily Post will be its newspaper.

Fiji TV reports that the denial follows the appointment of the former SDL media spokesman, Mesake Koroi, as the editor of the Daily Post from today.

The SDL secretary general. Jale Baba, says the party has no links with the Daily Post.

The TV report says another former SDL employee, Iliesa Tiora, is also now employed at the Post.

The government is selling its 46% shares in the Post but last month rejected the Fiji Sun newspaper's bid to buy them.

The Belmont Trading Company of Australia recently bought 49.5% of shares in the Daily Post which were previously owned by the Colonial National Bank and the Unit Trust of Fiji.
