An Australian resident charged over a series of sex offences on Pitcairn Island has agreed to be extradited to New Zealand.

29 year old Shawn Brent Christian faces two charges of rape and one of aiding and abetting another to rape on the remote island.

He's one of 13 men, including his father, former Pitcairn mayor Steve Christian, charged over the alleged attacks.

The retail sales manager from Newcastle has been living in Australia since 1998.

Once in New Zealand, his lawyer Brian Doyle says Christian will apply for bail in a specially constituted Pitcairn Island court.

He may be extradited as early as this afternoon.
