Police in American Samoa have seized a number of high-powered weapons during a raid on a house in Iliili.
The Commander of the Criminal Investigations and Intelligence Bureau, Vaa Sunia, says the haul included automatic weapons, sawn off shot guns and high caliber rifles.
Two people - a man in his mid 20's and a slightly older woman - were taken into custody for questioning.
Mr Sunia says the discovery of illegal weapons in a number of police raids over the last month is of concern to the Department of Public Safety.
He says there have been a number of cases of high school students bringing weapons to school.
He quotes Acting Commissioner of Public Safety, Mike Fuiava, as saying the proliferation of firearms in the territory poses a great public risk.
The Acting Commissioner has asked for the public's help in reporting any illegal weapons to the Department of Public Safety.
He also asks those with unauthorized firearms to turn them into police.
