Residents warned as tropical storm nears Marianas chain

Residents of Guam and the Northern Marianas are being urged to keep a close watch on a tropical storm.

A tropical depression is predicted to move slowly west towards the Marianas chain.

The Pacific Daily News reports the formation is expected to turn to the northwest with a decrease in forward speed, and it is likely to strengthen.

The Guam governor, Felix Camacho, has placed the island on Condition of Readiness Three.

Office of Civil Defence is expected to meet with village mayors this morning.

Officials are asking residents to take the necessary precautions.
