American Samoa, Samoa and Tonga could join forces to market their countries as regional tourist destinations.

American Samoa's Director of the Department of Commerce, Ali'imau Scanlan, says the three ought to sell their tourism wares more often and he says it's something they've been working on for a long time.

He says marketing American Samoa with other U.S. territories and freely associated states is too hard to implement because of logistics with the others in the North Pacific region.

Ali'imau says American Samoa is much closer to neighbouring South Pacific countries and that's where the marketing effort should be placed.
