Fiji's opposition leader, Mahendra Chaudhry, says President Ratu Josefa Iloilo should set up a commission of inquiry into the May 2000 coup in the interest of the nation.
The Daily Post says Mr Chaudhry has renewed his call after the coup convict, Josefa Nata, called for such a commission from prison where he is serving a sentence for treason.
Mr Chaudhry says similar calls have been rejected previously because a number of those involved are in the SDL government while others are outside.
But, he says, he is considering writing to the president on the issue.
In a signed letter to a prominent local businessman, Josefa Nata says the people of Fiji deserve to know the truth and he is prepared to tell everything he knows to a commission of inquiry.
In his letter, Nata says he is putting together his thoughts and experiences to tell the people of Fiji why May 2000 was wrong and why the the indigenous should desist in future.
