Marshall Islands President Kessai Note will visit Taiwan next week at the invitation of Taiwan President Chen Shui-bian.

The two heads of state are expected to discuss details of a planned visit by Chen to the Marshall Islands and other Pacific allies in 2005, co-operation between Mandarin Airlines and Air Marshall Islands, and Taiwanese funding support for a Marshall Islands trust fund.

The United States and the Marshall Islands jointly launched that trust fund earlier this year with $7 million and $25 million investments, respectively.

Taiwan officials have indicated they will also contribute to the fund.

The Marshall Islands, one of 27 nations worldwide that recognizes Taiwan, established diplomatic ties with Taiwan in 1998
