New Caledonia media strike settled

9:32 am on 2 December 2004

A long running strike at New Caledonia's public broadcaster is set to end.

The management of RFO and the USTKE union have signed an agreement that will allow the station to resume its programmes from next week after the dispute interrupted local news broadcasts for more than three months.

The stoppage started because of disagreements over a contract of one employee.

In the course of the stand-off, the employee last month joined other union members in an assault of a non-striking worker.
