Three senior officials of the Fiji Labour Party have been sued for 600-thousand US dollars in an action filed in the Lautoka High Court.
They are the Labour leader, Mahendra Chaudhry, the party president Jokapeci Koroi, senior MP Dr Ganesh Chandra and Labour's Lautoka branch secretary, Subhas Verma.
The action has been brought by Pushp Raj, Rajendra Prasad and Anita Raj who are officials of the Lautoka Sugar Festival Association which organises annual carnivals in the western city.
The plaintiffs claim that the Labour officials defamed them in a party publication and brought them into disrepute and contempt.
They are seeking 600-thousand US dollars in damages, legal costs and a High Court order preventing the defendants from publishing further defamatory statements.
