Fiji police arrest officer for coup-related offence

Fiji police have arrested a fellow officer in Labasa for offences related to the May 2000 coup.

The man has been charged with wrongful confinement, for locking up five other Labasa police officers on instructions from George Speight's rebels in parliament at the height of the coup.

Radio Legend reports that the accused has appeared in the Labasa magistrate's court and has been released on bail until January the 14th.

The police spokesman, Kolinio Vunaki says more accused people are expected to be charged soon for their role in the coup.
