Plans for a full University of the South Pacific campus in the Solomon islands capital of Honiara are focussing on what regional specialties might be taught there.
The plan is for a campus sited at an expanded College of Higher Education, where many of the hundreds of Solomons students who currently go to Suva, could be educated.
The campus in Vanuatu is where the USP law school is based while Samoa has agriculture.
The USP acting Vice-Chancellor, Rajesh Chandra, says they have had extensive talks with the Solomon Islands Government about what regional courses could be based in Honiara.
"There have been ideas around a commerce programme, there have been suggestions of forestry, for instance, there have been suggestions of teacher training - these are the ideas under discussion at the moment"
