Pacific Islands Forum to send an official to see if it can help the French Polynesia crisis

The Pacific Islands Forum is to consider what action it might take to try and help ease the political crisis in French Polynesia.

French Authorities have agreed that a Forum fact finding mission can been sent to the territory, which has been tense for weeks with two rival administrations claiming legitimacy.

The Forum's Secretary General, Greg Urwin, says his staff is now working out when an official would be sent and who they might see.

"That person is going with the objective of our developing some advice as to what the chair of the Forum and by extension, the Forum, may or may not wish to do in respect of the situation in French Polynesia - I can't telescope it any more than that at this stage."
