A Fiji-based NGO is receiving international attention including a gold medal in the Green Apple Environment awards in London.

Partners in Community Development Fiji won the award for its Coral Gardens project which helps locals manage and protect their marine resources.

Part of the project includes the declaring of Tabu over specific areas so no fishing can take place until stocks have replenished.

The PCDF Director Alisi Daurewa says people from around the region are approaching them for advice on the issue of sustainable fishing.

"We're actually having a workshop next week in Fiji in one of the other islands we're working in called Moturiki and we've got some countries in the Pacific coming across to come and share and where we actually have the opportunity to share lessons and our experiences."
