A Cook Islands company that now recycles its waste paper and cardboard for export to New Zealand says there's huge potential for expansion to other Pacific countries.
Foodlands is one of three Cook Islands companies to receive a baler from the New Zealand company, Full Circle - a subsidiary of Carter Holt Harvey.
The three companies have a joint agreement with Reef Shipping which freights the recycled waste to New Zealand.
The manager of Foodlands, John Wichman, says they used to dump four cubic meters of cardboard and paper waste at the landfill every day.
Now he says recycling has made a huge difference, and even cut the company's costs.
"'If I look at its possibilities,Pacific wide, they are quite great. The potential for it to go wider in the Pacific through the shipping links and their customers, is quite an enormous potential there to reduce the waste in the Pacific"
John Wichman says he's been inundated with enquiries about paper recycling.
