Fiji to host first world kava conference

9:15 am on 22 October 2004

Fiji will host the first ever international kava conference next month.

The conference has been organised by the International Kava Executive Committee.

It is aimed at providing a forum for discussions on the scientific and regulatory situation of kava and evaluating new scientific data on its toxicity and efficacy.

Other aims are to create an improved quality control system for South Pacific kava and identify ways to secure the future of the industry.

Apart from Fiji, countries taking part will include Tonga, Samoa and Vanuatu as well as relevant organisations.
