The Solomon Islands government has completed the purchase of a plot of land to accommodate the new police housing estate.

Minister for Police, Michael Maina confirmed the purchase saying it has been a significant step towards efforts to improve police officers conditions of service.

He says the final details of the title transfer is being done before work begins on constructing the houses.

Mr Maina says housing has been a big issue for the police for the last twenty years with officers having to leave their families in their home villages while taking up their postings.

He revealed similar work is being done in the provinces to find land to accommodate officers.
