Two men have been arrested in connection with the killings of five migrant workers last week in the Indonesian province of Papua.

A local police chief says the two men were arrested after police and soldiers retook control of a village in the remote Puncak region on Sunday.

The men were being questioned about their role in the Wednesday attack, when five Indonesian drivers died after their convoy was attacked by a group of gunmen.

Police say the 50-strong group are believed to be guerillas from the separatist Free Papua Movement.

The group earlier took control of the village but have since retreated into the jungle.
